Sports Medicine

The Pioneer Sports Medicine Staff consists of three full-time athletic trainers.

Mark Pietrok

Mark Pietrok is the Senior Assistant Director of PE/Athletics for Sports Medicine. The 2008-09 athetic year is “Petie”’s 20th with the Department.

Jeremy Loew

Jeremy Loew began his athletic training career working as an assistant trainer for the Portland Trailblazers, going on to spend four seasons in Minor League Baseball. Loew spent the 1996 serving as the athletic trainer for the Texas Rangers rookie level affiliate in Port Charlotte, Florida. In 1997 Jeremy joined the Oakland Athletics as the athletic trainer for Class A affiliate Visalia Oaks of the California League, working with them for three seasons. Following that he spent one year as the head athletic trainer at Lake Oswego High School and two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Western Oregon University while attending graduate school at Oregon State University. He was the assistant athletic trainer at Concordia University in Portland prior to coming to Lewis & Clark College in 2003. Loew, a 1995 graduate of Lewis & Clark, resides in Portland his wife Holly, also a L&C alum (’98), and their son Nathan.

Tara Derby

Tara Derby is the newest full-time member of the Pioneer Athletics staff. Derby splits her time as a softball assistant and an assistant athletic trainer for the Pioneers. Derby played softball at Concordia University-Portland where she graduated with a B.A. in Biology/Sports Med. Before coming to L&C full time, Derby worked at North Lake Physical Therapy as an athletic trainer/PT assistant. She and fiance Scott Boatman will be married January 3rd, 2009.
